Fernhurst Women’s Soft Ball Cricket

On 31 July 2018 the first Fernhurst Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Group was formed. Fourteen women arrived at the nets for their first cricket coaching session from Stacey Allen. Over five weeks the women were taught the basics of bowling, batting, wicket keeping, fielding and the rules, they also played their first game at the crease!

With their new found skills, and increased confidence, a team of seven was entered for the West Sussex Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Festival at Goodwood Cricket Ground on 22nd August. Although the Team didn’t win all their games everyone had a great, fun evening.

These Festivals are held throughout the country and are supported by the ECB. Women’s Soft Ball Cricket is about getting out and playing. It’s a game for absolutely everybody, no matter your skill level, fitness, or age. No pads, no hard ball, no heavy bat. Everyone gets the chance to bat, bowl, and field.

It is hoped that 2019 will see more women join the Fernhurst Women’s Soft Ball Cricket group (young and not so young) and try out the game, get involved, have fun and perhaps, take part in a Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Festival.

More information about the Fernhurst Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Group will appear nearer the start of the 2019 Cricket season. Watch this space.
