Does sport at the Rec help the community?

When asked by Pavilion2022, “Do you see any linkage between the marked increase in the number of young people at sport on the recreation ground now with the marked decrease in anti-social behaviour?”

Peter Hudson, Chairman, Fernhurst Community Action Project, replied.

“Absolutely, sport was an important part of the strategy for overcoming anti-social behaviour in the village.  Sport and especially team games promote social development in our young people.  We are fortunate that the trustees have in recent years extended the facilities of the recreation ground giving the opportunity for many more to take part.  Socialising continues after sport, but the existing pavilion is no longer large enough.  I applaud the efforts of the trustees to build a bigger pavilion to accommodate the greater numbers that now come off the playing fields ready to enjoy each other’s company.”
